Named ship of the year 2014

The zero emissions ferry, the ZeroCat 120, has been awared the prestigious Ship of the Year 2014 prize. GLAVA® supplied light weight insulation solutions to the battery powered ferry.

ZeroCat is the world's first car and passenger ferry to be powered by batteries. From 1 January 2015, it will enter service on the Lavik-Oppedal route on the E39 trunk route in Sogn and Fjordane county. Norled won the tender to build a one hundred per cent zero emissions ferry for the route. Delivery is scheduled for October, with sea trials to follow.

ZeroCat is an aluminium ferry that has been developed by Fjellstrand in partnership with Norled.

Readers of Skipsrevyen, the leading maritime magazine in the Nordic region, nominated the ship for the prize, and a jury selected the finalists and eventual winner.

State Secretary Dilek Ayhan (Conservative Party) of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries was responsible for announcing the award at the world's biggest maritime trade fair, SMM in Hamburg, on Wednesday.

Sigvald Breivik, Technical Director for Norled, is both proud and happy.

'This is hopefully a sign of things to come. This motivates not only us to invest even more in environmentally friendly concepts, but also the shipping industry as a whole,' Breivik told Teknisk Ukeblad. Read the full article at TU here

Kåret til Ship of the Year 2014

Nullutslippsfergen ZeroCat 120 er tildelt den prestisjefylte prisen Ship of the Year 2014.

Les hele artikkelen på TU her.
